DLS: 3 Facts about Affordability

3 Facts You Need to Know to Afford DLS

  1. $4,300 was the average grant given for the 2016-17 school year by De La Salle Collegiate.
  2. 45% of all students received a grant to help make tuition affordable.
  3. $3,000 to $11,500 was the range of tuition families paid in 2016-17 after De La Salle Collegiate awarded tuition assistance grants.

On February 1, 2017, the annual De La Salle Collegiate Tuition Assistance process for the 2017-2018 school year begins. That is when the new forms and the DLS Tuition, Tuition Assistance, and Academic Scholarship webpages will go live. Every year the De La Salle Financial Aid Committee reviews nearly 400 applications for help with tuition, and we are glad to report most of those applicants receive help!

The Tuition Assistance/Financial Aid Night for prospective and first-time aid applicants is scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 6 p.m. here at De La Salle Collegiate. School officials will walk families through the process, the form itself (PAFA), and answer any questions that families may have. Mrs. Anne Wiles, VP of Finance and Operations, and Mr. Bill Burkhardt, Director of Admissions, will lead the discussions.

Families should never see the tuition price at De La Salle Collegiate and think they cannot afford it. Our grants program has awards between $500-$8,500 for the current school year. This means a family’s tuition could be between $11,500 and $3,000. This is a large part of how we live out our Lasallian Mission and keep De La Salle Collegiate a school for all families living in Metro-Detroit.

To discover a family’s mission appropriate grant size, we ask families to complete a Pilot Assistance Fund Application (PAFA) that is powered by FAST/ISM. This is different from the FACTS form that the Archdiocese of Detroit asks families to complete.

It is an important distinction that the over $1.6 million in grants and academic scholarships that De La Salle Collegiate annually awards are funded directly from De La Salle Collegiate through the overwhelming generosity of our donors and alumni. De La Salle does not receive any funding from the Archdiocese of Detroit or the government.

If you cannot attend the meeting on February 2, then please contact the De La Salle Collegiate Admissions Office at 586-541-6220 or admissions@delasallehs.com. The staff will be happy to meet with you and/or answer any questions that you may have. #PilotPride #ImCollegiateCommitted
