DLS Science Teacher Mr. Ron Reichert recently earned a min-grant from the DTE Energy Foundation and the Macomb Intermediate School District Science Center. Mr. Reichert submitted an application for a grant to cover the costs of equipment for students to use in studying magnetic fields through a power supply. The $286 grant covered the coast of two coaxial Helmholtz coils. Students use the equipment to determine which types of commercial devices, such as a flashlight, laptop, or car, could be powered with the energy stored in this type and configuration of magnetic field. The project takes students four weeks to complete.
Mr. Reichert was one of 25 teachers to receive grants.
