Fr. Gary Smetanka, DLS '74, recently received the Msgr. Harold Markey Award from the Archdiocese of Detroit. The award is presented to a priest or religions who has demonstrated sustained involvement and outstanding commitment, impacting the lives of young people in the ARchdiocese of Detroit. The award is named for the priest who co-founded the CYO in 1933.
Fr. Gary has been pastor at St. Thecla's Parish, and as of July 1, 2008, assumes pastor duties at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Grosse Pointe Woods.
