The DLS Varsity Golf team qualified for the state tournament, and finished in ninth place.
The team placed fourth in districts, with the following scores:
Alex Bennett 76 (Alex came in 2nd as an individual)
Guy Rizzo 84
Joe Kulczycki 89
Tom Fredal 89
Dave Driver 90
The team came in second in regionals, missing first by only two strokes:
Alex Bennett 75 (Alex and Guy tied for 2nd place as individuals)
Guy Rizzo 75
Tom Fredal 81
Paolo Fabbri 82
Cory Stadelbauer 83
State finals were held at the very tough Meadows at Grand Valley State University, - very tough course. All the teams played through high winds both days. Scores for DLS were:
Alex Bennett 78-78
Paolo Fabbri 79-83
Guy Rizzo 86-79
Tom Fredal 81-87
Joe Kulczycki 94 (Played one day)
Cory Stadelbauer 87 (Played one day)
The team also won the Macomb County Tournament in May
Senior Alex Bennett was named Captain of the All-County 1st Team. Alex, a senior helped the Pilots win the county championship, shooting 75 at the county meet. He earned medalist honors with a 71 at the Grosse ile Invitatioal, and had two rounds of 78 at the state finals.
Senior Guy Rizzo tied for second at the county tournament, shooting a 74.
Junior Paolo Gabbri tied for third at the Evans-Gill Memorial team with a 74.
Coach Doug McKay was named Macomb County Coach of the Year.
Congratulations! Senior golfer Alex Bennett has been named Division 1 All-State, and DLS varsity golf coach Doug McKay has been named Division 1 Coach of the Year.
Congratulations to Coach McKay and all the varsity golfers on an outstanding season.
