Painting Wins Honorable Mention

Congratulations! Senior Michael Riehs was just awarded an Honorable Mention award in this year’s National Scholastic Art and Writing Competition in the Thumb region.

His work titled “The Lab Assistant” is a 4’X3′ acrylic painting on paper. The large scale work contains imagery and symbolism that would be found in a chemistry lab. He painted from his own photographic references, experimenting with new tools and techniques to achieve his desired results. Michael is enrolled in Art 6.

The Scholastic award ceremony will be held at The Macomb Center for Performing Arts on Feb. 1, with the work on display Feb. 3-16 at the Lorenzo Cultural Center.
