TROY, Mich. — After a few struggles out of the gate, the De La Salle Collegiate varsity bowling team awoke big-time Thursday afternoon at Bowl One Lanes in Troy.
Squaring off against the Pilots junior varsity team, the varsity squad rallied from a 10-0 deficit to claim an 18-12 victory, in a Catholic League East matchup.
Senior Andrew Rusu bowled games of 244 and 223 (467 series) to lead the comeback for his team. Junior Rafe Dewar rolled a season-best game (237) and series (439) to earn a pair of points in regular-game play. Senior Alexander Thorn (415) and junior Jack Gohlke (404) also broke 400 for their team.
Senior Luke Childs, a regular on varsity, helped fill in for the shorthanded JV team and picked up its lone point in singles play, rolling a 231 in Game 1. He finished with a 404 two-game series. Junior Brent Charrette had a season-high 223 game for the JV team, which defeated the varsity 201-173 and 194-158 to take all 10 points in Baker action.
With the win, the varsity squad improved to 4-2 in Catholic League play. The Pilots are tied for second place with U-D Jesuit. Divine Child (5-0-1) leads the division.
