Andrew Corder, '27, breaks DLS single-season scoring record

De La Salle junior Andrew Corder felt “pretty good” going into this afternoon’s MHSAA district semifinal soccer game against Grosse Pointe North. DLS won, 6-0.

While his focus was on helping his team win, he was also aware he had a chance to break the DLS single-season scoring record. Today, Corder scored his 32nd goal of the season, surpassing the previous record of 31 goals set by Brady O’Toole in 1987.

Even more impressively, Corder is closing in on O’Toole’s 74 career goals. With 65 goals as of today, he is on pace to break that record as well.

Head Soccer Coach Thaier Mukhtar said, “It’s amazing what he is accomplishing and still only as a junior. I believe he is the most dangerous offensive player in the state. Absolutely one of the most dynamic offensive players I have ever coached, right after Brian Maisonneuve (’91).”

Corder has led the Pilots in scoring every year he’s been at DLS, helping the team capture the 2024 state championship. De La Salle is once again a favorite to go back-to-back this season.

He earned All-State honors in both his freshman and sophomore years and is in contention this season for the Dream Team and, quite possibly, Mr. Soccer, awarded to the top high school player in Michigan.

For him, it’s always team first: “When I get the ball, I think about scoring and helping the team win.”

His love for soccer began when he was a toddler under the guidance of his father, Steve Corder, ’94, who won two state championships at DLS in 1992 and 1993 — also under Coach Mukhtar.

As a teacher at DLS, Mukhtar sees Andrew beyond the pitch. “Not only is he a gifted athlete, but Andrew also does well academically.”

Andrew recognizes the high expectations from his coach: “He wants the best out of us when he coaches or teaches us,” Andrew said.

But he’s not done yet. “Now we have another district game to play,” he added.

The MHSAA district final will be played against Marysville at 4:30PM on Thursday, Oct. 16, at St. John Baptist de La Salle Stadium. The team needs your support — come cheer on your Pilots!
