De La Salle falls in Round of 16

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — The De La Salle Collegiate bowling team ran into a familiar foe Saturday at the Macomb County Championships.

For the second straight week in tournament play, the Pilots ran into Chippewa Valley and for the second straight week, the Big Reds proved to be a thorn in their sides. Chippewa Valley defeated De La Salle, 575-539, in the Round of 16 Saturday at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights.

The Pilots won two of the three Baker games but lost the overall pin count. The difference came in Game 1, where the Big Reds opened up a 72-pin lead, winning 232-160. De La Salle won Game 2, 215-196, and had its chances in the third game, with Chippewa Valley struggling out of the gate. But the Pilots had some struggles themselves and were unable to overcome a 53-pin deficit in their 164-147 win in Game 3.

De La Salle qualified 11th out of 26 teams. Chippewa Valley was the six-seed. Macomb Dakota defeated L'Anse Creuse North in the championship match to win the county title.
