Gohlke qualifies for match play at county championships

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — Helped by a 269 in Game 3 of qualifying play, De La Salle Collegiate junior Jack Gohlke made it into match play Sunday at the Macomb County Championships at Sterling Lanes.

Gohlke rolled games of 207, 207, 269, and 177 for an 860 total. Earning the 11-seed (out of 32 players), he dropped his first-round matchup to Logan Slavin of Lakeview, 175-169. 

Dakota junior Jayden Denyes defeated Lake Shore sophomore Ben Augustitus, 247-217, in the championship match.

The Pilots were so close to having a few players reach the match play round. The 32nd qualifier rolled a 791 series. Senior Andrew Rusu finished 33rd with a 4-game total of 790. Seniors Salvatore Aiello and Alexander Thorn were just a few pins back at 788 and 787. 

De La Salle will be back in action Thursday when it takes on the Pilots' JV-A team at Bowl One Lanes in Troy.
