Pilots falls just shy of qualifying

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - De La Salle Collegiate struggled to find consistency Saturday, falling just five pins shy of qualifying out to tournament play at the Bakers Dozen Invitational hosted by L'Anse Creuse North at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township.

The Pilots rolled a 13-game Baker score of 2,294, just four pins behind Troy (2,298), which grabbed the 16th and final qualifying spot for the tournament. Eisenhower defeated Detroit Catholic Central in three games in the final (176-149, 178-218, 217-212). Chippewa Valley beat Utica Ford in the consolation final.

In the Junior Varsity competition, both the De La Salle JV-A team and the JV-B team qualified for tournament play. The JV-A squad finished eighth in qualifying before falling to the No. 9 seed, Anchor Bay, in the round of 16. The Pilots' JV-B team was the 12th seed, falling to fifth-seeded Eisenhower JV-A team in the first round of tournament play.

All three De La Salle teams will be back in action on Wednesday when they will take on Divine Child in Catholic League East play. The matches will be held at Wonderland Lanes in Livonia.
