DETROIT (June 10, 2019) – More than 280 golfers enjoyed the inaugural Christian Brothers Classic golf outing, hosted by the De La Salle Alumni Association at the Detroit Golf Club on Monday.
Golfers had to dodge some morning raindrops on the premier course that is the site of the PGA’s 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic at the end of June.
“This was a fantastic turnout for our first-ever golf outing at the DGC,” said Dennis Koch, alumni relations director and a 1994 alumnus. “We had nearly four times the number of participants as the past few years.”
The event sold out, and Koch anticipates the 2020 event will return to the DGC. Numerous out-of-town alumni returned to the area for the chance to play at the historic course that opened in 1899.
Proceeds from De La Salle’s golf outing support the Ed Martel Memorial Scholarship Fund, and will be used for tuition assistance. Martel, a 1987 graduate, passed away last September after a long battle with cancer. Read more.
Alumnus Steve Graus ran the silent auction. Additionally, more than 30 volunteers assisted at the outing from registration to putting contests.
