Athletes at De La Salle Collegiate now have another resource available to them: a sports nutritionist to offer guidance on how to achieve peak performance.
With so many options coming at them from all directions - especially from social media - it becomes helpful for athletes to know what works and what doesn’t.
A performance nutrition presentation was held in the Bill Fox Gymnasium on June 19, culminating in a productive week of varsity football training, along with DLS Freshman Football Camp, from the school’s new nutrition partner, Bryan Snyder.
Snyder, board-certified as a specialist in sports dietetics, spoke to athletes, parents and coaches, to provide them with sports nutrition education.
The football program will pilot the relationship, “but all athletes are encouraged to participate,” said Coach Dan Rohn, head of the DLS football program. “Having a nutrition program is crucial for high school athletes, because it impacts their performance, growth, and overall health.”
New for 2025-26, De La Salle Athletics has teamed up with Snyder, who has an extensive background in elite sports nutrition and has worked in the NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB, including:
- 14 years with the Denver Broncos (NFL) as director of nutrition
- Assistant athletic director at Texas A&M, overseeing nutrition for 600+ student-athletes
- Current director of nutrition for the Miami Marlins (MLB)
His consulting experience is far-reaching, having also worked with the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rockies, and Colorado Avalanche. Snyder’s goals for DLS athletes are to provide simple, practical, evidence-based nutrition education to help them perform at their best and to reduce the risk of injury through proper fueling and hydration.
In addition, De La Salle’s partnership with Snyder will offer guidance on game-day fueling, hydration strategies, and recovery tips. Nutrition advice will also be available with monthly parent Zoom sessions where athletes and parents will be able to ask Snyder about nutrition and performance.
Coach Rohn said having Snyder share his knowledge with DLS athletes will provide them with the tools they need for training and competition. “Proper nutrition also plays a vital role in recovery and well-being,” Coach Rohn said. “De La Salle Athletics is proud about this partnership and the impact it will have on our athletes.”
