RECAP: De La Salle Varsity Football Kicks Off Season with 38-13 Victory over Chicago St. Patrick
DETROIT, MI -- The Pilots varsity football program (1-0) started its season off with a bang Friday night against Chicago St. Patrick, as part of the 2021 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State’s Tom Adams Field. De La Salle dominated from start to finish, winning the contest with the Shamrocks, 38-13.

The Pilots got off to a quick start, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, via a 25-yard touchdown run by senior Alton McCullum and a two-yard TD pass from junior Brady Drogosh to fellow junior Triston Nichols.

Drogosh & Co. went into halftime with just a 14-7 lead, though, after St. Patrick got on the scoreboard, via a 15-yard touchdown reception, with less than 2:00 to play in the first half.

The Pilots stymied the Shamrocks in the second half, outscoring their foes, 24-6, in the final half of play.

De La Salle started the scoring in the half with a 31-yard field goal, which was put through the uprights by senior Brady Lowe, with 5:04 to play in the third quarter. Sophomore Rhett Roeser followed it up by scoring on a 34-yard touchdown run, with 3:21 to go in the quarter.

The Pilots extended their lead to 24 points, 31-7, to start the fourth quarter, via a QB keeper from Drogosh from 20 yards out.
Drogosh wasn't done just yet, either. He threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass -- of the 52-yard variety -- tto junior Chauncy Shaw.
The junior signal-caller finished with two touchdown passes and a TD run, and for his efforts, he was named De La Salle's Most Outstanding Player of the game.

Next up for the Pilots is a home contest with Detroit Denby Friday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at Tom Adams Field.
