Robinson is New Head Coach of DLS Swim & Dive

As the new head coach of swim & dive at De La Salle Collegiate, Brad Robinson described his team’s goals as “pretty straightforward.”

“We want to keep improving every day, both in the pool and as a team,” said Robinson, former assistant coach. “If the guys are hitting personal bests, pushing each other in practice, and enjoying the sport, then we’re moving in the right direction. The wins will come if we focus on the process.”

Robinson plans to set the foundation right away. “Success doesn’t happen overnight,” he said. “We’re focusing on the basics — showing up on time, putting in honest work every day, and paying attention to the little things like turns, starts, and race strategy. If the boys take care of those details consistently, the results will take care of themselves.”

In addition to coaching, Robinson also teaches social studies at De La Salle, giving him another connection with many of his swimmers.

Athletic Director Casey Wila said he’s thrilled to have Robinson leading the program. “He’s a teacher in the building and has coached within the program, and will instill values and principles that are consistent across the pool, classroom, and community,” Wila said.

“Brad is also a former administrator who understands and appreciates all aspects of running a high school program," he added. "I’m extremely grateful to have Brad grabbing the reins as we quickly approach winter.”

Both Robinson and Wila also share the same vision in leadership. Robinson, who was inducted into the 2025 Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame this past spring, hopes his influence goes beyond swimming. “What I hope they take away from me is more than just how to swim faster. I want them to see that discipline, accountability, and supporting your teammates matter,” he said.

“Swimming feels individual, but the best moments come when the team is behind you. That’s a lesson that carries far beyond the pool.”

Above all, Robinson wants his team to proudly represent the Purple & Gold: “At the end of the day, we want to represent our school and community the right way,” he said. “Compete hard, respect everyone, and have pride in being part of something bigger than yourself.”
