Congratulations to the Class of 2021 Valedictorian, Joshua Hoenscheid. With a 4.543 GPA, Joshua is the top student in his class. 

Congratulations to the Class of 2021 Co-Salutatorians, Andrew Fergan and Ryan Schaeffer. Ryan and Andrew have identical 4.502 GPAs. 

For the valedictorian, salutatorian, and other academic honors for graduation, grades at the end of the seventh semester (the first semester of senior year) are used to identify the top students. 

Since it is still February, all three are still waiting on various college acceptances and any potential scholarship awards. 

Thus far, Joshua has been accepted at the University of Detroit Mercy, and intends to major in business and finance. He attended Bemis Junior High in Sterling Heights, and decided to attend De La Salle because of the school’s atmosphere. “The teachers really care about students,” Joshua said. He has particularly enjoyed his history classes. Joshua lives in Sterling Heights. His parents are Jeff and Mary Joenscheid, and his younger brother Noah, will be a freshman in the Fall of 2021. 

Andrew plans to major in biomedical engineering. “I’ve always been good in math and science,” Andrew said. “This field brings them together.” He has been accepted at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and is waiting on other college offers before making a final decision. Andrew attended St. Lawrence Grade School in Utica, and chose De La Salle after shadowing at other schools. He has been involved in the Student Council, Link Crew, SAVE Club, the Stockmarket Club, and the National Honor Society. He has also served as a student ambassador. He lives in Shelby Township with his parents Tim and Rachelle Fergan. 

Ryan Schaeffer would like to major in business, and possibly pre-law. He has applied to various colleges and would like to attend Michigan State University or Wayne State University. Ryan played basketball and baseball in his freshmen and sophomore years and has been involved with the National Honor Society and the Link Crew. He attended St. Joan of Arc Grade School in St. Clair Shores and selected De La Salle because it is a Catholic high school. He lives in St. Clair Shores with his parents Lee and Nancy Schaeffer.
