Academic Spotlight: Alton McCullum

Congratulations to senior Robert "Alton" McCullum, headed to Valparaiso University. Alton was accepted at several universities and received offers of over $550,000.

He has chosen Valparaiso where he will study Finance, and also play for the school’s Division 1 football team.

Alton was accepted at Ave Maria University, John Carroll University, Ferris State University, the University of Dayton, Grand Valley State University, Lawrence Technological University, Northwood University, St. Norbert’s University, Northern Michigan University, the University of Mount Union, and the University of St. Francis (Joliet, IL).

He carries a 3.3 GPA, and played football at DLS all four years (wide receiver). He was brought up to the varsity for the 2018 playoffs, when DLS won the State Championship, and also was part of the undefeated  2021 State Championship team. He cites those two experiences as his favorite high school memories.

In addition to football, Alton also participated in track as a junior and lacrosse as a freshman.

His favorite class is Advanced Placement Computer Science with Mr. Jim Singelyn.

Along with his father Mr. Robert McCullum, Alton moved from Tennessee to Michigan and started seventh grade at Algonquin Middle School in the Chippewa Valley School District.

Alton and his father, who live in Macomb Township, chose De La Salle because they felt DLS would offer him a better education.
