WARREN, Mich. - Working with members of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Federal Assistance Advisory Commission, the Archdiocese of Detroit has learned this is the last week to make our voices heard before Congress releases a draft COVID-19 Emergency relief bill. The USCCB is asking all dioceses across the country to help and raise our voices on this important matter.
Please see the new USCCB Action Alert that highlights the diocese's request that Congress set aside 10 percent of any funds for K-12 education to go to scholarships for families that attend private schools.
We're asking that the De La Salle community help circulate the USCCB Action Alert page as widely as possible this week (e.g. families, staff, parishioners).
Please help by sharing the USCCB Action Alert with your email lists, social media, and any other communication lists you may have. At the request of the USCCB, please also use the hashtag #SaveCatholicSchools on social media.
While the Archdiocese of Detroit is in decent shape, there are up to 130 schools across the nation that have announced permanent closure this year and internal surveys tell us 10 percent of Catholic schools nationwide are uncertain of their future due to COVID-19.
Please keep our schools and our legislators in your prayers. Thank you for helping our Catholic families to raise this urgent issue with their representatives in Washington, D.C. this week.
