On Wednesday, November 15, two professors from Albion College (Albion, MI) Music Department, Dr. David Abbott and Dr. Lia Jensen-Abbott, visited De La Salle spoke to Music classes and also performed during lunchtime in the DLS Chapel.
Mr. Robert Cornwell, ‘19, who recently took over the Music Department at De La Salle, is an Albion graduate and invited the two professors who had mentored him during his college years.
The Chair of the Albion Music Department, Dr. Abbott is a versatile pianist and has won international music prizes.
His wife, Dr. Jensen-Abbott, is the Director of the Albion Honors Program and taught Cornwell music theory and keyboard skills. She has performed internationally as well as at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
"Dr. Abbott and Dr. Lia Jensen-Abbott are not just remarkable musicians," Cornwell said. "They are also extraordinary souls who went above and beyond for our students. Their unwavering commitment led them to traverse the state, generously devoting an entire day to enriching the educational journey of our young gentlemen."
Cornwell added, "Beyond their exceptional expertise, they brought the curriculum to life by delivering live performances, infusing a profound depth of understanding into the material. Moreover, their dedication transcended the chapel and my classroom as they graciously volunteered their guidance through private piano lessons for our talented young musicians.
"Their altruism and passion for mentoring extend far beyond mere professional acquaintance; they've become invaluable mentors, trusted friends, and cherished colleagues. Their impact resonates deeply, leaving us immensely grateful for their invaluable presence in our Lasallian community."
