Alumnus Offers Physical Therapy at BRAC

During March 2021, Kyle Suminski, 11, opened his own HealthQuest
location at the Brother Robert Activity Center (BRAC), located 8777 Common Rd., just two miles west of the De La Salle Collegiate main campus at 14600 Common.

Inspired by the late Ed Martel, ‘87, who spoke to students at a 2010 DLS Career Day, Suminski pursued pre-physical therapy while in college at Ohio Dominican University, and earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Grand Valley State University. At HealthQuest in Clinton Township, Suminski worked closely with Ed and his wife Julie.

“It’s been a passion of mine to help people get back to functioning in their daily lives without pain,” Suminski said. “To open a clinic in the area I grew up in is even more rewarding.”

Joe Gerardi, ‘86, De La Salle VP of Operations, is pleased that HealthQuest is now inside the BRAC.

“HealthQuest joins us as a partner, and I believe it is a win-win,” Gerardi said.

“We often have kids with sports-related injuries. We’re delighted that we can offer them this physical therapy opportunity.”

Gerardi added, “HealthQuest brings life to the BRAC all day long, as it is open 12 hours a day. This is part of a greater plan to see a broader use of the facility.”

DLS acquired the former YMCA in 2011, and recently remodeled several interior areas, including a former conference room that is now part of the HealthQuest area.

The site has been the home for the DLS Wrestling team, and is rented by various teams in the area, including youth basketball, baseball, softball, alumni basketball, and the Warren Police Department.

Suminski married his wife Victoria in 2019. They recently welcomed their first child and future Pilot on March 22.
