Andrew Grauzer Selected as Faculty Member of the Year

Congratulations to Mr. Andrew Grauzer, DLS Class of 2004, selected as the Faculty Member of the Year by his De La Salle Collegiate peers.

Mr. Grauzer has been a Social Studies teacher at De La Salle since 2014, and took over as the chair of the Social Studies Department in 2024.

Mr. Grauzer said, “I’m honored to be considered for this distinction. Obviously, there are many others at DLS who are deserving of this honor. I just feel lucky and privileged to work with other dedicated teachers who give so much of their energy to the school and its students. This recognition truly belongs to my students, who inspire me every day with their curiosity, and to my fellow educators, whose dedication and collaboration push me to keep growing. Teaching is never a solo effort—it’s a shared journey—and I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive and passionate school community. Thank you for this meaningful honor. As an alumnus, DLS has always felt like home, and I’m just happy I’ve had the opportunity to try to carry on the tradition of providing a great Lasallian education, such as that I received from my teachers here years ago.”

Principal Br. Ken Kalinowski, DLS ‘84, said, “Andrew is a proud alumnus, a true professional, has a thirst for knowledge, and has a zeal and passion for history. He has traveled abroad and brings that knowledge to the classroom, and a love for his alma mater! Once a Pilot, always a Pilot! I always feel better after observing him with his students, and when I simply discuss world events with him! De La Salle is lucky to have him on staff!”

Mr. Grauzer followed in the footsteps of his older brother Jeff (DLS ‘02) in his choice to attend DLS. Their father Dave was also the long-time assistant of varsity basketball head coach Mr. Greg Esler, now the DLS Advancement Director.  Mr. Grauzer, like his older brother, also played basketball.

He earned his undergraduate degree in 2008 at the University of Michigan, where he majored in History and Philosophy. In 2016, he earned his M.A. in Teaching from Wayne State University.

After college graduation, he taught English in Japan for two years, and found a passion for teaching, learning, and connecting with others, as well as traveling.

At DLS, Mr. Grauzer is the moderator of the Health and Fitness Club; he was also a basketball coach for nine years.

Assistant Principal Mr. Christopher Dean, DLS ‘89, said, “I am very happy Mr. Grauzer won this award. It is very deserved. He stepped up to become the Social Studies department leader and quietly goes about making positive impacts on students. I’m glad to see his peers recognize what he brings to the table. And I’m always glad to see an alumnus passing on the traditions to the next generation.”

Along with his wife Sarah, a Physician’s Assistant at St. John Hospital, Mr. Grauzer has traveled extensively, including an African safari. They have a ten-month old son William.

They make their home in St. Clair Shores, where Mr. Grauzer grew up and attended Ardmore Elementary and Jefferson Middle School.
