Campus Ministers Reflect on Successful Year
As teachers start to pack up their classrooms for the summer, Campus Minister Sr. Kathleen Matz took a moment to reflect on the past year.

“When I think about this year, the quote from Thessalonians comes to mind,” Said Matz, “‘Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus’" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). The quote is a call to cultivate joy, a life of constant prayer, and gratitude in all circumstances as a reflection of God's will for believers.

The Campus Ministry team cultivated a very successful year. Matz remarked on several spiritual and social successes:
  • Students have volunteered service hours at Parishes, Festivals, Schools, and Cemeteries.
  • Twelve peer ministers have assisted in Freshmen and Sophomore Retreats.
  • Juniors and Seniors have participated in our Kairos Retreats.
  • Five students have been baptized, 5 Students have made their First Holy Communion, and 15 students have celebrated Confirmation.
  • On average, over 60 students attended Bible Study during their lunch hour, as well as other liturgical offerings, including Eucharistic Adoration, Rosary Time, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Stations of the Cross.
  • Students and families attended monthly Mass Mobs as we visited different Churches, and many students enjoyed hospitality and social time in the Campus Ministry Office.
“We have certainly had a year full of spiritual awakening, rejoicing, and praying, and I am grateful for the time that I’ve had with the students this year,” said Matz.

The Campus Ministry is already busy planning for next year as some new, yet familiar faces join the team. Theology teacher Mr. Matthew McCroskery will be stepping out of the classroom and into Campus Ministry full-time. Newly appointed Executive Director of Admissions, Mr. Brian Barker (who spent time as a theology teacher and campus minister at DLS)  will be assisting with Lasallian Formation.
