Campus Ministry Busy with Retreats, Liturgies

Just one month into the second semester, the very active DLS Campus Ministers, Sister Kathleen Matz, CDP, and Brother Carl Malacalza, FSC, have already coordinated a variety of student retreats and liturgies.

On Tuesday, January 24, a group of seniors spent the day in prayer and reflection, led by Fr. Julius Milton. at the Capuchin Retreat Center, in Washington, MI.

Fr. Joseph Gembala celebrated the weekly student Mass on Wednesday, February 1, followed by a full day of Eucharistic Exposition.

And on Thursday, February 2, a group of DLS students, along with Sr. Kathleen and Br. Carl, attended Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit as part of Catholic Schools Week.

For Lent, students will have the Sacrament of Reconciliation available to them on February 14, 15, and 16.

The Lenten Challenge put out to the students on Ash Wednesday, on Feb. 22, will be to visit the chapel each day for one minute.

Sister Kathleen and Brother Carl are calling it "The 60-Second Lenten Challenge."

In late February, the Campus Ministry office will be conducting a Kairos Retreat for approximately 35 juniors and seniors at the Columbiere Retreat Center in Clarkston, MI.

Campus Ministry will have a field trip on March 21, visiting three historic parishes in Detroit/Hamtramck: Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Hamtramck, and Sweetest Heart of Mary and St. Albertus, both in Detroit. The boys will then go to Buddy’s Pizza in Detroit for lunch.
