Cross Country Season Concludes, Two Runners Qualify For States

De La Salle's 2020 cross country season has come to an end, after a fifth-place finish in the state regional meet Friday at Chandler Park Golf Course in Detroit.

However, it's far from doom and gloom for the Pilots.

Senior Preston Earl and junior Peyton Ross both qualified for states, with personal record times of 16:11.9 and 16:33.7, respectively. They each accomplished personal goals, as well, finishing with times under 16:30 and 16:40, respectively.

Earl finished fifth among all seniors and sixth overall, while Ross finished third among all juniors and 19th overall.

Meanwhile, Pilot freshman runner Robert Trebnik finished as the fastest in his class, with a PR of 16:45.9.

In recording that time, he accomplished a personal goal of producing a run of under 17:00.

Prior to Friday's meet, Trebnik's personal best time was 17:19.

DLS cross country head coach Sandy Buchanan was very proud of what Earl, Ross and Trebnik each accomplished.

"They did exactly what we needed, and all of them had PRs," Buchanan said. "It was a fantastic day for each of them."

Next up for Earl and Ross is the state final meet, taking place next Friday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.
