Football has always meant more than just the game for Dan Rohn, and this June, his impact will be recognized with his induction into the 2026 Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Across 27 years of coaching in Michigan, including stops at Fremont, Grand Rapids West Catholic, and De La Salle Collegiate, Rohn has built his career on something deeper than wins and losses.

“Coaching has allowed me to build lifelong relationships with players, coaches, and families,” Rohn said. “The programs I’ve been part of will always mean a great deal to me. Football has given me community, purpose, and connections that last well beyond the field.”

A Muskegon native, Rohn credits his early mentors for shaping both his coaching philosophy and perspective on life.

“They were leaders in their communities who gave their time to help young people grow,” he said. “They cared about us not just as players, but as people.”

That mindset has defined Rohn’s approach throughout his career. Known for building disciplined, connected programs, he has consistently emphasized culture, accountability, and relationships. These are values that extend beyond the game itself.

“When I first started coaching, I didn’t fully understand the impact of the role,” Rohn said. “Now I do. Coaches have the ability to shape a school, a program, and even a community.”

Since taking over at De La Salle in 2020, Rohn has guided the program through a period of transition, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining a standard of excellence. One of his most meaningful experiences came in coaching his two sons and winning one of his six state championships with them on the sideline.

Throughout his career, Rohn has helped develop athletes who have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional levels, but he measures success in more than just advancement.

“At the end of the day, the wins are special,” he said. “But it’s the people and the relationships that stay with you.”

Colleagues across the football world echo that sentiment.

Bill Sheridan, senior defensive assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars and former De La Salle coach, called Rohn “a complete professional,” praising his leadership, preparation, and ability to connect.

“It always came down to one question with Dan: What’s best for the student-athlete and the team?” Sheridan said.

Ferris State head coach Tony Annese described Rohn as “one of the most successful coaches in Michigan,” while Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock pointed to his competitiveness and ability to build strong, lasting relationships.

“His success comes as no surprise,” Denbrock said. “He understands the game, but more importantly, he understands people.”

Rohn’s induction reflects a career built not just on his six state championships (that also include 11 conference championships, 13 district titles and 11 regional championships), but on the lasting impact he has made on players, programs, and communities across the state.

He will be honored at a ceremony on June 19 at The Westin Southfield.
