DLS Bus Driver Finishes Fourth in County Competition

De La Salle Collegiate bus driver Lorrie Hawkins competed in a “Bus Rodeo” on Saturday, May 9, at the Macomb Intermediate School District Facility in Clinton Township and finished fourth out of 45 drivers.

The competition was sponsored by the MSCTDA, a group of transportation directors from Macomb and St. Clair Counties. The competition involved drivers competing on an obstacle course, with judging based on their accuracy and skill.

The winners go on to the state competition.

DLS Director of Transportation Larry Pitruzzello said Hawkins has been with DLS for a year but has 30 years of driving experience.

The MSCTDA is a group of 32 members who meet monthly to share ideas and information.

Pitruzzello joined the MSCTDA this year and says, “The MSCTDA has been a great resource for our busing program.”

Hawkins is one of six drivers for DLS. The school owns four buses, two that each hold 46 passengers, and two that each hold 32 passengers.
