Several De La Salle Collegiate and Regina High School students, along with faculty and staff, attended the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Lawrence Church, in Utica, on Sunday, November 17.
This was the third “Mass Mob” sponsored by DLS since the inaugural efforts in May 2024 when the group attended Mass at St. Joan of Arc. A second “Mass Mob” took place at St. Isaac Jogues. Both parishes are in St. Clair Shores.
Brother Lewis Harwood, FSC, a member of the DLS Campus Ministry Department, said, “It is very important to connect with our Catholic Parishes to strengthen our network base in promoting our shared Catholic values and identity.”
A December 15 “Mass Mob” is planned at St. Mary of the Hills, in Rochester, at 11 a.m.
Senior Josh Opolski has attended all three of the “Mass Mob” events.
“I’d be going to Mass anyway on the weekend,” he said. “And this is a good bonding experience with my fellow students.”
Josh’s home parish is Immaculate Conception in Ira Township.
The St. Lawrence event was senior Evan Cole’s first “Mass Mob” experience.
“My first thought is this is a great way to bring the DLS and Regina communities together and learn more about God,” Evan said. He typically attends Mass at St. Malachy in Sterling Heights.
Both students have been involved with Campus Ministry in a variety of activities, including monthly Masses where they have been altar servers, handled readings and worked the slide show. They also greeted visitors to the Campus Ministry table at the recent DLS Open House.
Josh typically reads the morning prayer on the school’s public address system.
Evan is also working on becoming a Eucharistic Minister.
