DLS Mock Trial Team Gains Valuable Experience at District Competition

The 2026 De La Salle Mock Trial Team was one of 18 schools competing in the District Competition at the Macomb County Courthouse on March 7, 2026.

Although the team did not qualify for the state finals, students and coaches believe the experience will be valuable as they prepare for the 2027 season.

The team is coached by David Femminineo ’90, Keith Jablonski ’92, and Bart Kmiec, all of whom have sons on the team and have been involved with the Mock Trial program for several years.

The 2026 roster featured a mix of five returning students and twelve newcomers; Carlo DiNello — the only ninth-grader on the team — earned the Best Attorney Award, selected by the opposing team.

Junior Mikos Rosati praised DiNello’s performance.

“Most freshmen would have been very nervous to participate, but he wasn’t,” Rosati said. “He delivered the closing statement, and I have no doubt that he will be a huge asset to next year’s state run.”

Preparation for the competition began shortly after case materials were released between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Students immersed themselves in the facts of the case, crafted direct and cross examinations, and refined their courtroom presence. The team also visited an actual courtroom to become familiar with the space before competition day.  Read more

“While we didn’t qualify for states, this year was extremely fun for everyone and set a great foundation for next year,” Rosati said.

Faculty moderator Brad Robinson also noted strong performances from junior Anthony Adamo, a returning team member, along with newcomers sophomore Jake Jablonski and junior Luke Lara.

Coach Keith Jablonski praised the leadership shown by the team’s upperclassmen.

“Juniors Evan Femminineo and Jacob Kmiec did a really nice job showing the new guys the ropes, which gives us reason for optimism for a fantastic group next year."

Coach Bart Kmiec also looks forward to next season.

“Although the judging didn’t go our way, the long hours of practice and revisions of the documents were worth it. We can’t wait to bring back the core group and build on their talent and competitiveness.”
