The De La Salle Collegiate HOSA Team recently created and delivered 28 “Boredom Buster Activity Kits” for children confined at Detroit’s Children’s Hospital for prolonged illnesses.
HOSA is for students with an interest in Health Occupations.
The DLS group, led by senior Glen Vasili, originally aimed to create at least 10 activity kids for children of different ages. But with generous donations from the De La Salle Family, the number grew to 28.
DLS Science teacher and HOSA Moderator Mrs. Mary Balamucki said, “The response was humbling.”
Each assembled kit contained five to six items to help fight boredom, such as coloring books, paint sets, play-doh, crayons and markers, stickers, word search puzzle books, and more.
The kits were delivered on Thursday, December 12, by Vasili, along with HOSA President senior Brendan Harper and Vice-President junior Bill Gintner.
Balamucki said the HOSA group has a blood drive planned for April and possibly other activities during World Health Awareness Month
Additionally, the DLS HOSA team will be competing in the HOSA State competition April 17 and 18 in Traverse City, MI. Seven students have qualified. Read more
