DLS Students Attend Annual Mass of Commerce at Sacred Heart Major Seminary

Nearly 20 De La Salle Collegiate students attended the 31st Annual Mass for Commerce at Sacred Heart Major Seminary on Wednesday, October 16. Archdiocese of Detroit Bishop John Quinn presided over the Mass.

The annual event brings together Catholic business people from all over the Archdiocese. Its purpose, as stated on the AOD website, is as follows: “In our ever-changing world, the principles of stewardship, service and leadership are timeless. Join the Southeast Michigan business and professional community and celebrate the Eucharist in thanksgiving for God's gifts of love and grace.” More information can be found online at the Detroit Catholic

Eleven DLS students who participate in the DLS DECA program and seven DLS Choir students attended, along with 20 Regina High School choir students.

Business teacher and DECA Moderator Mr. Dennis Koch ‘94, and Music teacher Mr. Robert Cornwell ‘19, accompanied the DLS students.

“This was a great opportunity to see that they are part of a bigger world out there,” Koch said. “I wanted them to meet and network with Catholic businessmen and women.”

He added, “We were fortunate to have a number of our DECA students attend this Mass, celebrated by a Bishop, and then network and enjoy breakfast. This was one of those little experiences that continues to prove why De La Salle is a wonderful place.”

One of the DECA students, Senior Nolan Kas-Mikha, said, “It was a great opportunity to connect with business professionals and share a beautiful Mass celebration. The visit to the Sacred Heart Seminary and the attendance of the Bishop and other priests and seminarians was extremely nice.”

DECA participant and Senior John Kajy said, “It was great. We got to celebrate the mass with Bishop John Quinn, and enjoy a delicious breakfast after and network with various individuals. It was a great thing to exhibit Catholicism in the busy world of business.”

The students and their faculty chaperones all went to the Seminary via one of the De La Salle Collegiate buses. The choir students practiced briefly before the Mass.
