DLS Welcomes Experienced Art Teacher

De La Salle Collegiate recently welcomed Christine Wilder who is taking over the Art teacher position.

"Christine comes to us with a variety of experiences as a Catholic educator and has jumped into her role as Art teacher," said Principal Brother Ken Kalinowski.

"Christine brings with her a tremendous amount of energy and ideas as we begin the next semester. The kiln in our art studio seems to have her excited, I am looking forward to our boy's creativity."

Wilder, who graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea High School (now closed) in Grosse Pointe Woods, earned her undergraduate degree at Michigan State University in Studio Art. She later earned a master’s degree in Art Education at Wayne State University (WSU), and also holds a professional certificate in Educational Leadership from WSU.

Wilder said she pursued art as she had good art teachers in the Catholic schools she attended.

Her positive experience teaching all boys at Orchard Lake Saint Mary led her to apply to DLS.

Thus far, her impression of DLS is that “the boys are respectful and work cooperatively with each other.”

Her classes include Introduction to Studio Art, Advanced Studio Art, Art Foundations, and Portfolio.

Her previous teaching experience also includes positions at Bishop Foley, Shrine Elementary, and St. Anne (Warren), as well as at public schools in Madison Heights, Northville, and South Lyon.

Wilder has three children and lives in Ferndale. She likes to do abstract acrylic painting, make jewelry, and do yoga.
