Experienced Teacher Joins Science Department

Welcome to Mrs. Mary Balamucki, who brings over 15 years of teaching experience to the De La Salle Science Department. Her classes include Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Advanced Placement Biology.

Mrs. Balamucki received her college degrees from Oakland University, including a bachelor of arts in biology, her secondary teacher certification, and her master of arts in teaching.

Her experience includes both middle and high school assignments. She was named Secondary Level Teacher of the Year for the Van Dyke Public Schools in 2019; At the time, she was teaching at Lincoln High School, her alma mater.

As a child, Mrs. Balamucki wanted to teach. “The best thing we can do to bring the next generation forward is to give them the gift they need to be successful.”

She chose to pursue science. “Science is the way that I understand God,” she said. “I believe that the Father created everything, and science gives me an ability to understand how perfect it all really is.”

After teaching virtually for nearly all of the 20-21 school year, Mrs. Balamucki was looking for a new challenge when she decided to apply to De La Salle.

“Everybody here is so kind and supportive,” she said. “”It’s a beautiful school.”

She enjoys gardening,  and is proud of her research efforts to create a garden with plants that attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. “I’ve seen a lot of butterflies this summer I haven’t seen in a while,” she said.

Mrs. Balamucki also enjoys cooking and baking.

Mrs. Balamucki and her husband have four adult sons; they live in Clinton Township.
