Faculty Compete in Annual Jeopardy Tournament

Congratulations to the DLS Faculty Jeopardy team, “The Mike Karas Fan Club,” who won the 2024 Faculty Jeopardy Tournament in friendly competition with four other teams on March 5.  The group included Dave Dudus, Dave Kirck, Shaun Legato, Catherine Leix, and Lindsay Tula; they each won a $25 Amazon gift card.

The group beat the defending champions: Sheryl Anderson, Vito Chirco, Kevin Fitzhenry, Dennis Koch, and Amy McGill.

Kirck brought home the win in Final Jeopardy, correctly answering that Truman was the most recent president without a college degree; only two of the five teams answered this question correctly.

Team member Lindsey Tula is “very proud that she recalled all of the traditional Monopoly money colors.”

“I thank Mr. Legato for being brave enough to wager it all in Final Jeopardy,” said Leix. “And Mr. Kirck for knowing the final Jeopardy answer! These were two deciding factors in our victory.”

The winning team is named for DLS Social Studies teacher Mike Karas who has been retired for several years and was once a team member.

2024 marks the 27th consecutive year of the Student Jeopardy competition, led by veteran faculty member Thaier Mukhtar. He prepares the questions for both the faculty and students for the multi-week competition which begins in January.

Over 60% of the student body participated in the single elimination tournament this year; underclassmen and upperclassmen compete in separate divisions, with four teams at a time competing after school.

The underclassmen champs were sophomores Ashton Baan, Connor Donahue, Vince Houlihan, and Josh Wilson; the upperclassmen champs were seniors Ricky Artymovich, Caden Baan, Gianmarco Rizzo, and Charlie Seip.
