Faculty Spotlight: Mrs. Anne Hughes Joins Foreign Language Department
De La Salle Collegiate High School is proud to welcome Anne Hughes to the De La Salle community as our newest Spanish teacher, joining us for the remainder of this school year—and, we hope, for many years to come.

Anne brings with her nearly 15 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools, most recently spending seven years at Armada Area Schools as a Spanish and Technology teacher. Her passion for language learning is matched by a strong foundation in instructional design and educational technology. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Spanish from Iowa State University, followed by a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Technology, along with a certificate in Instructional Design.

“We are very excited to have Anne join the De La Salle family, said De La Salle Collegiate Principal, Mr. Christopher Dean, '89. “The energy and passion that she has already brought to her classrooms was immediately apparent. As time goes on, I cannot wait to see all of the ways she will ingrain herself into the De La Salle community.”

Anne’s love for Spanish language and culture extends well beyond the classroom. She has lived and studied in both Spain and Mexico, bringing real-world perspective and cultural depth to her teaching. Since moving to Michigan in 2012, she has continued to combine global experience with innovative instructional practices that engage and inspire students.

Outside of school, Anne is deeply rooted in family and community. She and her husband, Michael, live in Macomb with their son Bennett (10) and their dog Danni. Much of their family time is spent at the pool, where Bennett swims competitively and Anne serves as a coach with the Great Lakes Tritons, a club they’ve been part of for four years. An active family, the Hughes enjoy being outdoors—whether at the beach, on the lake, fishing, reading, or training for endurance events. (Michael has completed two Ironman 70.3 triathlons, and Anne has proudly completed one of her own!)

You can now find Anne in Room 104, teaching Spanish classes and mentoring French, where she is already embracing the spirit of the De La Salle brotherhood. Guided by the words of Luke 12:48, Anne looks forward to all that De La Salle has to offer—and to all that she can give in return.
