Faculty Spotlight: Scott Husken
Our DLS STEM Coordinator wears many “hats” with multiple responsibilities: Coordinator, Teacher, Trainer, Student, Coach.

Mr. Scott Husken joined the DLS Faculty back in the spring of 2024 as the school’s STEM Coordinator. (READ MORE)

In that role, he has worked closely with DLS Curriculum Coordinator and Assistant Principal Mrs. Annmarie Michol to recommend equipment for the Steve and Kathy McShane Innovation Center, such as the cutting-edge Anatomage © table being used by multiple teachers from Biology to Physics to Theology.

Along with Michol, Husken has developed a curriculum path for students that provides introductory as well as advanced courses in Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Aviation, and Biomedical Education.

Michol says, “Our STEM Coordinator and Engineering teacher Scott Husken has been an invaluable asset to De La Salle. His innovative approach to teaching and commitment to developing engaging, project-based assessments have greatly enhanced our STEM program and student learning experiences. His professionalism, creativity, and collaborative spirit have made him a pleasure to work with. I look forward to continuing to partner with him as we move De La Salle forward in advancing our curriculum and academic excellence.”

Husken taught a new Introduction to Technology class during the 2024-2025 school year, a “gateway” class that fulfills the school's technology credit requirement.

New faculty member Mr. Jeff Graus, ‘95, now teaches that class.

Husken is teaching Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering.

Last spring, he took a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) class to teach Principles of Engineering, the two-year engineering class offered by DLS. (READ MORE)

This past summer, Husken took Civil Engineering training provided by MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation). Part one of the training pertained to motion, friction, and the safety systems that are developed using those physics principles.

The second portion of the training pertained to the TRAC Bridge Building competition put on by MDOT in the spring. Husken is trying to recruit more kids to join the Civil Engineering Club. Teams that qualify travel to Grand Rapids for the final competition.

But his teaching extends beyond the classroom to instructing DLS teachers in several departments. Husken is currently teaming with DLS Science teacher Mr. Rob Black to train the staff in using the 3D printers and the laser cutter.

Principal Christopher Dean, ‘89, says, “Scott Husken is one of the most tireless workers on the De La Salle faculty. Not only did he finalize all of the details for our STEM center, but he is also busily demonstrating to all teachers the way the space can be utilized for their disciplines. The Anatomage table, for example, can be utilized to teach foreign language students vocabulary and students will use the laser printers for a Stations of the Cross assignment that is well-received each year in our Old Testament course.

“This wide-ranging flexibility is all managed, promoted and directed by Scott and his work in the STEM center. We are grateful for his vision in making this learning space open and available to all Pilots.”

Meanwhile, Husken also is busy after school as a defensive coach for JV football. He also goes to the varsity games to help the entire staff. Husken’s son William is a current DLS junior.
