Five Pilots qualify for state music festival

WARREN, Mich. – Congratulations to the five De La Salle Collegiate musicians who participated in Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association District Solo and Ensemble Festival last Saturday at Rochester High School.

Solo & Ensemble Festival is an opportunity for individual students from member schools to perform a selection of their choice for adjudication.

Each student or group of students was evaluated by one judge and rated on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest rating possible. Students or groups that earn a rating of 1 (or "Superior") qualified for the State Solo & Ensemble Festival will be held at Chippewa Valley High School on March 14.

De La Salle’s state qualifiers are senior Joey Wiegand (alto sax), juniors Nathan Arnold (soprano sax), Daniel Kaiser (tenor sax), Stephen Lubera (trumpet), and freshman James Walter (bari sax). Regina sophomore Kayla Helgren (flute) also qualified for next month’s state competition.
