Freshman Lopez Earns All-American Indoor Track Nationals

Freshman Michael Lopez is gearing up for the DLS track season, but he’s already medalled at national events during the 2021-2022  indoor track season, and the 2021 outdoor season 

Michael took 4th place in the 60 meter dash at the New Balance Indoor Track Nationals held in New York City the weekend of March 11-13, 2022. His time of 7.16 seconds also gave him an All-American title. Watch the video of his heat - Michael is in Lane 6.

Although Michael first competed in indoor events the winter of 2019-2020, this was his first national indoor meet.

He also competed in the National Junior Olympics in Houston Texas, from July 31 - August 7, 2022,  in Houston, TX.  He qualified for the 100m., and his 11.11 seconds time earned him 12th place. 

With three friends from his running club, his 4 x 100 relay team took third place. 

Michael attended Wyandot Middle School, and played football for the Eastside Eagles. Through the Eagles’ team, Michael learned about the 16 Ways Track Club. 

Michael has wanted to attend De La Salle since fifth grade, and participated in football during the fall. 

This spring, Michael hopes to compete in the 100m and 200m races as a member of the DLS Track and Field Team.
