Frosh Varsity Athlete Plays Anthem at Home Game

Freshman Phoenix Glassnor surprised the home crowd and his varsity basketball teammates with a rendition of the national anthem prior to the Jan. 18 home game vs. U-D Jesuit.

Phoenix, who is in the DLS Concert Band class, worked with music teacher Kevin Schulz during free time during the day to learn the anthem on the tenor saxophone.

“Phoenix put in a lot of time and effort in order to prepare his performance,” Schulz said. “We came out with a good product.”

Schulz said he asked Glassnor to try tenor sax this year for the Band; he said Phoenix also plays baritone and alto sax, as the skills on one “translate to the others.”

In addition to basketball, Phoenix also plays football and baseball and currently holds a 3.4 GPA.
