Golfers Take Fifth at State Tourney

Congratulations to our De La Salle Collegiate Varsity Golf Team!

The Pilots finished fifth at the MHSAA Division 1 Golf Tournament June 11-12 at Michigan State University's Forest Akers course, with a two-day total of 617. Ann Arbor Skyline led the field with a 594 score.

"This is a group that loved to hang out together and play golf," said Dennis Koch, assistant varsity golf coach. "Their love of the game led to their success."

The Pilots reached the finals after winning the 2021 regional with a 295 team score, besting Romeo at 314, and Grosse Pointe South at 320.

The regional win was a back-to-back win for the team, which had no season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A seventh straight Macomb County Championship at the Orchards, the DLS home course, was also part of the season's highlights.

"These were not 'country-club' kids," Koch said. "They practiced throughout the winter, utilizing the area's indoor golf simulators. They did yoga. They practiced their technique. And they had great team chemistry."

Senior golfer Adam Burkhardt will be playing at Wayne State University. while his teammate Seth Waters will also be at the collegiate level at Lake Superior State University.

Senior Ethan Tran, who topped the regional with a 3-under 69, is undecided.

Rounding out the senior team were Avery Petri and Nick Iafrate."
