The Christian Brothers’ Dinner Committee has selected Steve Graus, ‘74, as the 2021 Dinner Honoree.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled than to honor Steve Graus at the 2021 Dinner,” said Matt Loria, ‘95, Dinner Committee Chair. “Steve has been a tremendous supporter of De La Salle for so many years. Many of those years he’s also been an integral part of the CB Dinner. I appreciate Steve’s unwavering commitment to the school’s success, especially in recent years.”
The 2021 Christian Brothers' Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, 2021. The event will be held outdoors, at the Jimmy John's Field in Utica, MI.
A long-time supporter of De La Salle Collegiate, Graus has served the school in many ways. He served on the Board of Trustees from 2002 - 2008, serving as the Advancement Committee Chair during that time.
Graus also served as the Dinner Chair for three years in the early 2000’s, and has continued to serve on the Dinner Committee. He began the silent auction at the Dinner, and continues to work diligently to put together auction packages. Graus also helps with Dinner ticket sales.
Amy Seiferlein, Director of the Lasallian Fund, and a member of the Dinner Committee praises Graus. “I have been working with Steve on the Dinner Auction for many years,” Seiferlein said.
“He’s always been a pleasure to work with; he is always helpful and presents great ideas that help us fundraise successfully. Steve’s blood runs Pilot purple!”
Graus’s fundraising efforts have also gone beyond the annual Dinner.
He initiated the “Evening of Delights,” a strolling taste fest and auction held at the school each October for 13 years.
Graus also was instrumental in changing the school bookstore into the Pilot Hangar, with a large dedicated space and an online presence.
As a past parent (his son Andrew graduated in 2007), Graus has also been involved with the Dads’ Club, and continues to help at home sporting events by selling 50-50 tickets. In a pinch, Graus will help at the “gate,” and with concessions.
Graus has also assisted with raffle ticket sales at the Christian Brothers’ Auxiliary’s annual Fashion Show.
“I am very humbled about being selected,” Graus said. “I love the school no matter what happens. I have a passion for the school as so many of us do. It is a great feeling to be following in the steps of my contemporaries - Dan Loepp ‘75, Ray Skowronski, ‘74. To be in that same group is amazing.”
Graus owns and runs his own successful sports memorabilia store, Detroit City Sports (DC Sports), at Lakeside Mall, in Sterling Heights.
Graus hopes that alumni and friends of the school will attend the 2021 Dinner.
“The Dinner is a tradition of De La Salle. I don’t know if any other school in Michigan can pull off what we did. We’re going to be able to get together this year and have social distancing in place. We’re trying some different things to raise money for De La Salle’s students.”
