How Two Seniors Prepped for HOSA Competition

As De La Salle’s HOSA team prepares to send 13 students to the state conference this weekend, seniors Benjamin Nunnold and Majd Ghareeba are preparing to compete in one of the organization’s most demanding events: Creative Problem Solving.

Unlike a traditional test, competitors in the Creative Problem Solving event must first complete a multiple-choice exam based on official HOSA resources—materials Ben and Majd have been studying intensely through reading, note-taking, and collaborative review sessions.

But the real challenge comes next.

Participants are given a prompt and just 30 minutes to develop a solution. They then present their ideas in an 8-minute presentation to a panel of judges.

“It’s not just about knowing the material,” Ben explained. “It’s about thinking quickly, working as a team, and communicating clearly under pressure.”

Their preparation includes studying official HOSA texts, using online tools, and practicing problem-solving scenarios with other team members.

Majd is participating in HOSA competition for the first time.

A three-sport athlete and varsity goalkeeper on the soccer team, Majd brings a different kind of competitive experience to the event. Inspired after attending last year’s state conference as an ambassador, he decided to step into the arena this year.

“I saw the atmosphere and the energy at states,” Majd said. “It was something I wanted to be part of. I knew this event would help me in the future.”
