Junior Evan Kelley not only has a strong GPA and a class schedule that includes Advanced Placement (AP) classes: Biology, Government, and English Language and Composition.
Evan is also a well-rounded student involved with several school activities, including the DLS Campus Ministry program.
He is an EME (Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist) at his home parish, St. Therese of Lisieux in Shelby Township, and at the December 6, 2024 liturgy, he will be commissioned as an EME for the De La Salle Collegiate community.
Additionally, Evan is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the business lead for the DLS Robotics team; Evan has been involved with Robotics since his freshman year.
Mr. Rob Black, the group’s moderator, said, “Evan works diligently to raise funds for our program.”
Evan has been on the DLS DECA team since freshman year, is a member of the World Cultures Club and the Military History Club, and was part of the Link Crew this year.
During the summer, he works as a swim instructor and lifeguard - a job he has had since he was 14. Not surprisingly, Evan is a member of the DLS Swim Team (freestyle and backstroke).
Evans plans to pursue a career in secondary education, looking at getting certifications at Oakland University in Integrated Science, incorporating Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
He attended a week-long program for future teachers, sponsored by General Motors, at Wayne State University during the summer of 2024. The program involved teaching second-grade students at the Southfield Public Schools.
AP Biology teacher Mrs. Mary Balamucki describes Evan as “very motivated!”
She adds that “Evan is an excellent student” and notes he helps care for the turtles in the Biology room.
And you might “see” Evan at a school event or athletic contest, dressed up as “Captain Spirit,” the DLS mascot. He is one of a group of students who serve in this important role.
Evan advises freshmen to get involved. “It’s the best way to make friends,” he says.
He chose to attend De La Salle, following in the footsteps of his uncle, radiologist Dr. Frank Randazzo, Class of 1992, and cousin senior Jack Randazzo. Jack’s younger brother Ryan is a freshman.
Evan lives in Macomb Township with his parents Scott and Julie Kelley.
