Started in 1997, the Catholic Math League is a national math competition to develop test-taking skills in participating students when they take achievement tests and college entrance exams.

Catholic school students compete with one another via the internet. There are four days of competition throughout the school year; students take a grade-appropriate Honors test for 30 minutes without using a calculator.

“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, talent, and leadership of Mr. Joe Novak and the entire Math Department,” said DLS Curriculum Director Mrs. Annmaie Michol. “Placing first in the state and third in the nation in such a competitive field reflects not only the strength of our academic program but also the hard work of our students and the commitment of their teachers. We are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished together.”

DLS Math Department Chair Mr. Joe Novak, ‘03, said, “The Math Department tries to push students to participate in competitions, and to push themselves.”

The De La Salle Mathematics curriculum is rigorous, including Advanced Placement Calculus AB, Advanced Placement Calculus BC, and Advanced Placement Statistics.
