Meet the  2026–27 Student Council Officers

The newly-elected Student Council officers for the 2026–27 school year are a group of leaders committed to strengthening school spirit and continuing the tradition of Pilot pride.

Gavin Velicevic, Class of 2027 - President

A graduate of Holy Family Regional School, Gavin said his decision to attend De La Salle was immediate. “When I toured here, in seventh grade, it felt like home—a place where I belonged.”

A three-year member of Student Council, Gavin is deeply involved in school life, participating in football, baseball, National Honor Society, Music Ministry, DECA, and serving as a leader in the Broadcasting Club. He also works as an intramural basketball referee.

Though he has long embraced leadership roles, Gavin said running for president was about formalizing his commitment to serve. “I felt that I could do the best job serving as President.”

His primary goal: increasing Pilot Pride across the student body. Gavin also looks forward to welcoming a future Pilot—his younger brother, currently an eighth grader at Holy Family Regional School (Class of 2030).

He lives in Rochester Hills and is a member of St. Mary of the Hills Parish where he is also a music minister. His parents are Erik and Heidi.

Will Husken, Class of 2027 - Vice-President

Will, who attended Seneca Middle School, said his first visit to De La Salle made a lasting impression. “As soon as I came here, it felt like home, and I knew I wanted to be part of this brotherhood.”

A Student Council member since freshman year, Will is also heavily involved in athletics and leadership. He plays football, is a captain on the wrestling team, and was a finalist at the state wrestling championships atFord Field. He is also active in National Honor Society, Link Crew, and intramural sports.

“I wanted to showcase my leadership skills and communicate well with my classmates,” he said of his decision to run.

Will hopes to restore school spirit to a high level while creating more opportunities for students to share ideas and have their voices heard.

He has a younger brother, Jacob (Class of 2029), currently at De La Salle. Will lives in Macomb, attends St. John Vianney Parish, and is the son of Scott and Becky Husken.

Padraic Barrett, Class of 2027 - Secretary

Padraic, a graduate of St. Isaac Jogues, said the reputation of De La Salle drew him in. “I had heard of the brotherhood and school spirit that made up De La Salle’s culture, and I wanted to be a part of it.”

A Student Council member since freshman year—and an early morning algebra student with Mr. Novak during his eighth grade year —Padraic is active in hockey, baseball, National Honor Society, Link Crew, Bible Study, Mock Trial, intramural sports, and altar serving.

He ran for secretary with a clear goal in mind: “to restore the Pilot Pride that was once so strong.”

Padraic hopes to create an environment where students are excited to come to school each day.

He lives in Grosse Pointe Woods and is a member of St. Isaac Jogues Parish.

His parents are Matthew and Ashlee Barrett. He has two brothers: Peter (Class of 2028, also a Student Council officer) and Joseph (Class of 2030).

Peter Barrett, Class of 2028- Treasurer

Peter, also a graduate of St. Isaac Jogues and another early morning algebra student with Mr. Novak, said De La Salle stood out for its energy and opportunity. “The spirit and opportunities here felt both fun and influential.”

A Student Council member since freshman year, Peter is involved in baseball, DECA (state finalist), band, Bible Study, altar serving, and intramural sports.
“I felt I could offer my ideas and advocate for other students,” he said.

As treasurer, Peter aims to increase school spirit while encouraging more students—especially those not already involved—to participate in school activities.

He lives in Grosse Pointe Woods with his parents, Matthew and Ashlee Barrett, and shares the De La Salle experience with his older brother Padraic, while a younger brother is currently in eighth grade at St. Isaac Jogues.

Together, these student leaders bring a shared commitment to service, leadership, and strengthening the brotherhood that defines De La Salle.
