Motowski earns business honor

WARREN, Mich. – Vincent Motowski, who recently finished his junior academic year at De La Salle Collegiate, has received a Junior Business Student of the Year scholarship from Northwood University.

Motowski, who is the president for the Class of 2021 and a leader on De La Salle’s DECA team, is one of 67 juniors from 67 different high schools to receive the award. The honor comes with a $5,000 per year renewable scholarship – $20,000 over four years – to Northwood and an invitation to this July’s Learn About Business (LAB) Camp.

Each student is nominated by their teacher for their participation in their school’s business programs and their passion for business. Awards are presented to high school students who personify integrity, responsibility, empathy, and achievement.

Motowski is a two-time state DECA champion in team categories. As a freshman, he and Thomas Marsh claimed the state’s top prize. Last March, Motowski captured his second state title, but this time with senior Noah Cole.

“It’s a state championship in its own way,” Motowski said. “Obviously, it’s different than winning something like football or basketball, but having it be just Noah and I it was a little bit more personal. We put a lot of work into it. We weren’t too sure about how the outcome would go, but we knew we were good at this.”

Motowski said he plans on attending the five-day summer business camp, which is still scheduled to occur on Northwood’s campus, July 20-24, in Midland, Mich.

The business camp is an opportunity for high school students to immerse themselves in an environment surrounded by professors, students and mentors who share the same passion for business. It’s designed to expose students to challenging entrepreneurial environments like entrepreneurship, leadership and management, marketing and innovation, economics and pre-law, cybersecurity and information systems, accounting and finance, and operations and supply chain management.

“Some good news in tough times,” Motowski's mom, Tara, said. “We're proud of Vince and grateful to De La Salle and Mrs. (Aarron) Meier for the nomination, it was quite the surprise. Hopefully the camp won't be canceled in July so he can experience their campus.”
