As De La Salle Collegiate celebrates its Centennial Year, several talented student artists are helping preserve the school's history and enhance campus pride through a series of mural projects that now serve as permanent fixtures throughout the school.

Under the leadership of De La Salle Art Teacher Stacey Stasinski, a student mural initiative has become an important addition to the school's campus signage and visual storytelling. These projects not only beautify the campus but also highlight the creativity and dedication of De La Salle students.

One of the most ambitious projects was completed by sophomore Giovanni Orlando-Lauria, who created a large-scale mural depicting De La Salle's rich 100-year history from 1926 to 2026. Located near the east side of the Steve & Kathy McShane STEM Center, the mural features a detailed portrayal of the school's evolution over the past century.

The artwork includes references to De La Salle's original Detroit roots, featuring historic street signs and imagery from the school's earliest years. These elements are contrasted with modern representations of today's De La Salle experience, including athletics, STEM education, and student life. At the center of the mural is an image of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers and founder of the Christian Brothers.

"The mural tells the story of who we are and where we've come from," said Stasinski. "It's exciting to see our students use their artistic talents to celebrate the legacy of De La Salle while creating something future generations of Pilots will enjoy."

Sophomore Mark Markara recently completed another significant project inside the school's Golf Simulator Room. His mural features the official 100-Year De La Salle Centennial logo, providing a lasting reminder of this historic milestone and serving as a focal point for the growing golf program's facility.

Meanwhile, Billy Mason took on the task of restoring a beloved campus landmark by repairing the De La Salle football field mural located near the music room. The refreshed artwork helps preserve a piece of school tradition while ensuring the mural continues to inspire students, athletes, and visitors.

Together, these projects demonstrate how student artists are making a lasting impact on campus. As De La Salle enters its second century, these murals will serve as visual reminders of the school's history, traditions, and commitment to developing every student's talents.

The mural initiative is yet another example of how De La Salle students are leaving their mark on campus—one brushstroke at a time.
