New Anatomage® Table Propels De La Salle to the Forefront of Biomedical Education

De La Salle Collegiate High School has officially announced the opening of its cutting-edge Steve and Kathy McShane STEM Innovation Center this fall. Spearheaded by a generous multi‑million‑dollar gift from alumnus and Midtronics CEO Steve McShane (Class of 1961), the Center is set to propel the school into the forefront of biomedical education in Michigan.

At the heart of the Center lies the Anatomage® Table—a state-of-the-art, interactive 3D visualization system that functions as a full digital cadaver. Normally found in premier medical schools and clinics such as Harvard and the Mayo Clinic, this revolutionary tool digitizes real human bodies, giving students access to layered anatomical views and virtual dissection capabilities—a technology rarely seen in high schools. Costing upwards of $100,000, the table is positioned to dramatically enrich classroom learning and enhance student readiness for medical and health care careers.

“The Anatomage® Table is a game-changer,” said Scott Husken, De La Salle’s STEM Education Coordinator. “Over the past year, De La Salle has developed a Biomedical Science Department to meet the demands of anticipated career openings that will become available to our students in the near future. The addition of the Anatomage® Table will make De La Salle a transformative hub for biomedical education."

Although several schools in Michigan have an Anatomage® Table, De La Salle is the first private high school to acquire one.

“With real-world applications across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and beyond, our students will now engage in hands-on learning experiences that rival those at the collegiate level,” said Dan Rohn, Chief Operating Officer at the school.

“The generosity of our De La Salle family continues to shape the future of our students in extraordinary ways,” Rohn added. “This latest investment in cutting-edge technology—like the Anatomage® Table—demonstrates our shared commitment to academic excellence. We are grateful for the vision and support that make opportunities like this possible.”

Construction on the 6,000 sq ft innovation center began in June 2024, converting the old library space into a high-tech learning environment. A formal ground‑blessing ceremony was held in October 2024—part of the “Builders of Boys. Makers of Men. The Next 100 Years.” Capital Campaign ahead of the school’s centennial in fall 2026. A grand opening ceremony will be held on October 9, 2025.

“Society’s challenges and new opportunities demand that students develop problem-solving abilities required for future careers. These investments are also important to encourage the development of the whole student – to shape future leaders in Detroit, our great state, and beyond,” said Dan Loepp (Class of 1975), former President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, who serves as the Capital Campaign chairman.

Husken emphasized that the center will include four distinct curriculum pathways—Biomedical Science, Engineering, Computer Science, and Aviation—allowing students to explore interdisciplinary STEM realms. He also noted continued professional development through Project Lead the Way, ensuring educators stay current with industry-aligned methodology.

The new facility solidifies De La Salle’s commitment to preparing students for careers in medicine and health sciences. With instruction supported by the Anatomage® Table, hands-on STEM courses, and alumni mentorship, the school is positioned to better serve Michigan’s growing demand for medical professionals, a field expected to see nearly 2 million job openings annually.

Alumni support and McShane’s visionary donation underscore a shared mission: nurturing curiosity, equipping students with real-world skills, and fulfilling De La Salle’s promise to form both competent minds and strong character.

De La Salle Collegiate today stands as a pioneer of high school-level biomedical education in Michigan. With the Anatomage Table as its centerpiece, the new STEM Innovation Center promises to elevate student learning, inspire future doctors, and uphold the school’s legacy into its second century.
