The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
IB INFORMATION NIGHT: This Wednesday, parents of current freshmen and sophomores are invited to learn about De La Salle’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This event, from 6-7 p.m. in the TARMAC, will detail elements and advantages of enrolling in the IB programme. Parents who are unable to attend this event, but still have an interest in IB for their son, can reach out to IB Director Eric Wynn at 586-778-2207, ext. 447.
COLLEGE FINANCIAL PLANNING NIGHT: Also Wednesday, De La Salle is hosting College Financial Planning Night from 7-9 p.m. in the school cafeteria. This presentation by Education Planning Resources is open to all parents because it’s never too early to financially plan for college.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT/DINNER: The third annual Christmas ExtravaBANDza is this Sunday from 3-7 p.m. in the Bill Fox Gymnasium. Get into the Christmas spirit with this fantastic performance from our fine musical ensembles. Also enjoy a delicious dinner catered by Polish Village of Hamtramck. Tickets are now available here ($15 in advance; $17 at the door), and all proceeds go directly to the De La Salle Music Department.
CLASS OF 2020 PICTURES: Seniors must be make arrangements with Patrick Studios for their pictures to appear in the yearbook and on the class composite. Seniors are under no obligation to order pictures from Patrick Studios, but must have at least the graduation gown-only pose there. All photo appointments must be made by this Friday’s deadline. Patrick Studios is located at 31710 Mound Road in Warren. Contact them at 586-268-6440 (they are closed Mondays).
OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
ATTENTION FOOTBALL PARENTS: For those who have not returned all of their son’s equipment a charge for missing gear will be applied to their FACTS tuition accounts this Tuesday. Late equipment will still be accepted.
MIDTERMS ARE THREE WEEKS AWAY: First semester examinations for the 2019-20 academic year are Dec. 18-20. Exams will be given according to the following schedule:
Wed., Dec. 18: Period 1 Exam (8-9:30) and Period 2 Exam (9:40-11:10).
Thu., Dec. 19: Period 3 Exam (8-9:30); Period 4 Day 1 Exam (9:40-11:10); and Period 4 Day 2 Exam (11:20-12:50).
Fri., Dec. 20: Period 5 Exam (8-9:30) and Period 6 Exam (9:40-11:10).
Please note that the third exam on Dec. 19 is Period 4 on a Day 2 schedule. This is the class that does not meet on Day 1.

WAMS TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for the fall production of Clue On Stage are now available for the three performances, Dec. 13-15. CHRISTIAN SERVICE
CHRISTMAS SERVICE PROJECT: De La Salle is taking the opportunity to make the light of Christ known to people of our local community through an Adopt-a-Family service event. There are 37 needy families who have children attending Warren Consolidated Schools that will receive groceries and Christmas gifts. Each advisory will Adopt-a-Family for Christmas, donating money, doing the shopping for groceries and Christmas gifts for the children, wrapping the gifts and welcoming the families when they pick it all up. The juniors are leading this enormous undertaking as a service project. Please be generous in providing a $15-$20 donation to brighten a families’ Christmas with dinner and presents.
PARENT GROUP NEWS
CBA/MOMS CLUB: The CBA general meeting and Christmas party is this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Dinner and Christmas cheer will be served. Wear your ugly Christmas sweater or holiday outfit and share the season’s merriment. New faces joyously welcome.
DADS CLUB: The next Dads Club meeting — holiday party/euchre tournament — is Dec. 11 in the cafeteria. The meal will be catered, so please RSVP by the end of today to ensure we have enough for everyone. … We would like to help those less fortunate during this holiday season and request that you each bring four cans or boxes of non-perishable items, to the holiday party, for distribution to local food pantries. Your generosity during this will go far in making things a little bit easier for others in need.
