Parent Newsletter, Issue 17

The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year. The next newsletter will be published on Jan. 13.
 
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
PILOT HANGAR: The Pilot Hangar is now closed for the holiday break, however you can still order items through the online store. All orders placed during the break will be filled on Jan. 6.

SNOWBOARD/SKI CLUB: There are two possible day trips to Mount Holly over Christmas break (Dec. 27 or Jan. 3), meeting at school at 9 a.m. For more info on Snowboard/Ski Club, click here.

CHRISTMAS BASEBALL CLINIC: The De La Salle Collegiate baseball program is offering a one-day Christmas hitting, defense, and pitching clinic for boys in grades 3-6 on Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic will be held at the Brother Robert Activity Center (BRAC) located at 8777 Common Road in Warren. The cost of the clinic is $50. Space is limited to 25 players.

HONORS BANKING CLASS: Applications are now available for sophomores and juniors for next year’s Honors Banking Class. Students build their resume through real work experience and leadership opportunities while getting hands-on training with interviewing, time management, finance and marketing, customer service, etc. Interested students should stop by The Union to pick up an application today or get it here.  

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
REPORT CARDS: First semester report cards will be available online at 3 p.m. on Jan. 10.

IB DISCOVERY NIGHT: There’s an opportunity to meet the International Baccalaureate teachers and hear from current students about each class in De La Salle’s diploma program. All freshman and sophomore students and their families interested in the IB program should plan to attend this event on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Commons.
 
ACT/SAT TESTS: Juniors and sophomores may soon take the ACT/SAT test, one of the most important components in their college application process. Students may take the ACT exam in February, April, June or July. They also have the option to take the SAT in March, May or June. For information on test prep courses, click here. EXTRACURRICULAR NEWS
MOCK TRIAL: The first official Mock Trial practice will begin the first week after Christmas Break. For more updates, students should check Ms. Cook’s Google Classroom page and use code: v7obdb. 

GOLF PARENT MEETING: There will be a parent information meeting on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the TARMAC.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE
THINK SPRING: Is your Pilot interested in spending part of his Spring Break in Appalachia? This year’s Alternative Spring Break is April 13-18. It’s open to all students 16 years or older. Last year’s trip was amazing: meeting locals, living simply, working hard, and making connections with students around the country. 

MARCH FOR LIFE: There is an informational meeting for the parents of students attending the March for Life. It will take place in the Commons on Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

MCREST: For the second straight year, De La Salle will be part of Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST). The dates are June 7-13. Please mark your calendars and plan to donate a few hours to help the temporarily homeless in this community.

PARENT GROUP NEWS
CBA/MOMS CLUB: The next general meeting is Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. … The CBA Spring Fantasy 2020 Fashion Show is March 18 at Penna’s of Sterling Heights. Pre-Ticket sales will begin at the January meeting. 

DADS CLUB: Watch for emails from the Dads Club requesting and reminding volunteers for home basketball games this season. The Dads Club would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and look forward to a renewed purpose and motivation to support the boys in 2020!
