The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
 
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
HONORS BANKING CLASS: Sophomore and junior applications for next year’s Honors Banking Class are due this Tuesday with interviews held this Wednesday and Thursday. Interested students should get an application here.

POSITIVE YOU FOR PARENTS: Positive You will host a parent presentation this Tuesday at 6 p.m. at De La Salle. This event is designed to educate parents about prevention tools and techniques that can best empower their sons. Please RSVP by noon today!

BREAKING THE SILENCE: This Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. Turning Point will hold a Breaking the Silence (sexual assault) presentation in the Tarmac. Community education is the key to ending the culture that promotes domestic and sexual violence. Seating is limited to the first 60 students to sign up for the 75-minute presentation. Students can sign up in the Counseling Office. 

GETTYSBURG FIELD TRIP PARENT MEETING: The Military History Club is taking an educational trip to Gettysburg this April. A parent meeting will be held this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Tarmac to discuss pricing, itinerary, and payment schedule for the April 3-5 trip. It isn’t too late for students to join the club and attend this great trip! Contact Mr. Castine for more information. 

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
ONLINE COURSE REQUEST: The time for current students to register for next year’s classes is coming up. Registration will be open from Feb. 10-14. It’s strongly suggested that students and parents start to discuss next year’s class recommendations with their teachers and counselors. The curriculum guide for the upcoming school year will be available online next week. … Current and potential Advanced Placement students must pick up an AP Course Request Contract from the Counseling Office after Jan. 27,  and meet with the AP teacher to discuss the course expectations. Students who do not have the form completed and turned into their counselors by Feb. 15 will not be permitted to take an AP course. … The course request and scheduling timeline can be found here. 

STAMP OUT BULLYING: De La Salle is holding its inaugural Bullying Awareness Week from Jan. 27-31. The week will finish with a Positive You school assembly on Friday. For more details about the week’s events, click here.

TUITION ASSISTANCE NIGHT: De La Salle and Regina parents are invited to attend an informative event regarding the tuition assistance application process. This year’s Tuition Assistance Night - for both schools - will be Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in De La Salle’s cafeteria. To pre-register, please click here. 

ACT/SAT TESTS: Juniors and sophomores may soon take the ACT/SAT test, one of the most important components in their college application process. Students may take the ACT exam in February, April, June or July. They also have the option to take the SAT in March, May or June. For information on test prep courses, click here. IB INFORMATION: Families who were not able to attend last week’s International Baccalaureate Discovery Night but are still interested in its diploma program should contact IB Coordinator Eric Wynn. 

EXTRACURRICULAR NEWS
SPRING MUSICAL PARENT HELP: The Wig and Mask Society is looking for parent volunteers to help with Saturday morning set construction (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) and with Sunday afternoon costume help (12-5 p.m.). If you’d like to help build sets or help the moms sew and make costumes, please contact Mr. Kevin Fitzhenry at 586-541-6210. 

SPORTSMEN’S CLUB: Outdoors activities continue throughout the year in sun and snow.  Students can learn the exciting, challenging, and affordable games of trap, skeet, and sporting clays in a safe and supervised setting. Club meetings take place every Tuesday during Power Hour and practices are scheduled every Wednesday after school. Transportation to and from school is provided. Interested students should contact Coach Jolly.

GOLF PARENT MEETING: There will be a parent information meeting on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Tarmac.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE
THINK SPRING: Is your Pilot interested in going on a mission trip? This year’s Alternative Spring Break is April 13-18. It’s open to all students 16 years or older. Last year’s trip was amazing: meeting locals, living simply, working hard, and making connections with students around the country. 

MCREST: For the second straight year, De La Salle will be part of Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST). The dates are June 7-13. Please mark your calendars and plan to donate a few hours to help the temporarily homeless in this community.

CBA/MOMS CLUB: The CBA Spring Fantasy 2020 Fashion Show is March 18 at Penna’s of Sterling Heights. Your invitation and Fashion Show Grand Raffle tickets should be in your mailbox. DADS CLUB: We are looking for volunteers for the remaining home varsity basketball games. The next game is Jan. 28 against UD-Jesuit. The Dads Club’s next general meeting will take place on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Be sure to RSVP by Feb. 7 to ensure there is enough food and drink.
