The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.

STAMP OUT BULLYING: De La Salle is holding its inaugural Bullying Awareness Week this Tuesday through Friday. The week will finish with a Positive You school assembly on Friday. For more details about the week’s events click here.

TUITION ASSISTANCE NIGHT: De La Salle and Regina parents are invited to attend an informative event regarding the tuition assistance application process. This year’s Tuition Assistance Night - for both schools - will be this Thursday at 6 p.m. in De La Salle’s cafeteria. To pre-register, please click here

TUITION ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS: Applications for 2020-21 AOD Tuition Assistance are now available on the FACTS website. The Parent Information document and the Pastor Signature Form are both available on the AOD website or can be downloaded here. You may also download the Tuition Coordinator document which will answer many of the questions that you may have concerning the program. Read more.

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
POSITIVE YOU PARENT SEMINAR: Thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it out last Tuesday night for the Positive You parent seminar. We are blessed to host executive director Kenny Spear and his team. If you were not able to make it to the presentation, please check out Kenny’s slide presentation.

STUDENT COUNCIL DANCE: The student councils of De La Salle and Regina are hosting “A Night in the Jungle” Dance on Feb. 8. The semiformal dance, from 7-10 p.m., will be in the Bill Fox Gymnasium. This dance is open to all De La Salle students with student ID. Girls from any high school with an ID may attend. Cost is $10 per person.

ONLINE COURSE REQUEST: The time for current students to register for next year’s classes is coming up. Registration will be open from Feb. 10-14. It’s strongly suggested that students and parents start to discuss next year’s class recommendations with their teachers and counselors. The curriculum guide for the upcoming school year will be available online next week. … Current and potential Advanced Placement students must pick up an AP Course Request Contract from the Counseling Office after Jan. 27,  and meet with the AP teacher to discuss the course expectations. Students who do not have the form completed and turned into their counselors by Feb. 15 will not be permitted to take an AP course. … The course request and scheduling timeline can be found here

ACT/SAT TESTS: Juniors and sophomores may soon take the ACT/SAT test, one of the most important components in their college application process. Students may take the ACT exam in February, April, June or July. They also have the option to take the SAT in March, May or June. For information on test prep courses, click here. LASALLIAN FUND: If you have not yet done so this school year, please consider making a donation to the Lasallian Fund to support the students of De La Salle. Your gift will benefit scholarships, academic programs, technology updates, and so much more. We thank you in advance for your generosity!
 
EXTRACURRICULAR NEWS
PARENT ATHLETIC MEETINGS: The following spring sports will host informational parent meetings in the next five weeks. Track (Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.); Golf (Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.); Baseball (March 5 at 6 p.m.); and Lacrosse (March 5 at 7 p.m.). Each of these meetings will be held in the Tarmac.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE
THINK SPRING: This year’s Alternative Spring Break is April 13-18. This year’s trip is to Vanceburg, KY. It’s open to all students 16 years or older. Last year’s trip was amazing: meeting locals, living simply, working hard, and making connections with students around the country. 

MCREST: For the second straight year, De La Salle will be part of Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST). The dates are June 7-13. Please mark your calendars and plan to donate a few hours to help the temporarily homeless in this community.

MORE SERVICE EVENTS: Squadron 4 freshmen make lunches for the homeless (Jan. 30); Macomb Feeding the Need (Feb. 3): Immigration and Christian Justice Student Conference (Feb. 6); Red Cross Blood Drive (March 19): Young Lasallian Leadership Assembly, Buffalo, N.Y., (July dates TBD). … See Ms. Ragona to sign up or learn more about these service opportunities.

PARENT GROUP NEWS
CBA/MOMS CLUB: The CBA Spring Fantasy 2020 Fashion Show is March 18 at Penna’s of Sterling. Your invitation and Fashion Show grand raffle tickets should be in your mailbox. Reservations are $70 but available at a discounted rate of $65 now through Feb 15. Purchase online at The Pilot Hangar

DADS CLUB: We are looking for volunteers for the remaining home varsity basketball games. The next game is this Tuesday against UD-Jesuit. If you’re available to help with any remaining games, please sign up through SignUpGenius. Even if the spots are all filled, we can still use more Dads. The Dads Club’s next general meeting will take place on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Be sure to RSVP by Feb. 7 to ensure there are enough food and drink.
